This article formulates some of the difficulties dogmatic theology encounters when treating of God's mercy. It is not enough to speak of God's self-withdrawal to the profit of humans. One must also take into account God's initiative in shaping history. This, however, leads to a perception of humankind as miserable and in need of mercy, a concept that meets with great resistance in today's world that does not appropriate such concepts grounded in religious belief. |
