Given that the twentieth century was characterized by frequent ruptures and numerous supersessions of competing régimes d’ historicité, it is remarkable that time has not played a more central role in its analysis. This article surveys, first, the role of time in the writing of history. Second, it discusses the history of time along three poles: standardization vs. pluralization, discipline vs. f lexibility, and acceleration vs. Eigenzeit (one’s own time). Third, it sketches three concepts – temporalization, rhythm and simultaneity – as building blocks for a »time-history« of the twentieth century. |
