Zusammenfassung: | Teilw. zugl.: Basel, Univ., Diss., 2012 Heidi Brunnschweiler has written the first comprehesive and systematic study of Christian Boltanski's use of found photos in his artist books and installations. His image manipulations are revealed through comparison with picture sources, which the author has researched in various archives. Subsequently, their significance is discussed with regard to Boltanski's attempts to come to terms with the Shoah. The way in which they appear in his works and the connection between certain photographs and Hasidic stories, sacred light, and the Jewish concept of 'Repair of the world' are thus rendered visible. A crtitical stance towards Modernism is explicated against the background of the history of Eastern European Judaism |
