Zusammenfassung: | The path-breaking and prolific lensman Raja Deen Dayal began his career in the late 1860s. Trained as a draughtsman in the British regime, he was involved in creating photographic record of territorial survey projects, and also of the 'natives'. In 1885, he was appointed court photographer to Mahboob Ali Khan, the Nizam of Hyderabad. As the only court photographer in South Asian history, Deen Dayal is a link between an older tradition of court painters and the evolving scientific aesthetic of the new medium. The Deen Dayal studios took thousands of photographs, creating a unique archive. A sizeable portion of these are now with 'The Alkazi Collection of Photography', many of which richly illustrate this book. Also available with ISBN: 9781935677369 |
