Zusammenfassung:On the life and work of Sonam Wangfel Laden La, 1876-1936, and his role in forging the political relations between India and Tibet of his times
Klappentext: "S. W. Laden La was one of the most interesting personalities on the Tibet India frontier in the first three decades ofthe 20th century. He was born in Darjeeling, the border town that was the summer capital of Bengal. At the foothills of the Himalayas, Darjeeling was a cosmopolitan yet traditional town with a multi-ethnic population. It was famous for its tea, its unique little railway, its climate and excellent schools, and for its magnificent views of Mt. Kanchenjunga. The authors have written this short account of S.W. Laden La's life and work. They have talked to people who knew him or knew of him and they have also examined much written source material, including family papers. Deki Rhodes is the eldest daughter of W.D. Laden La, the second son of S.W. Laden La. She was born and grew up in Darjeeling. She studied at Loreto Convent and St. Joseph's college Darjeeling and at The London School of Economics. She has worked at an economic research organisation in London. Nicholas Rhodes was born in London. He studied mathematics at Cambridge University, and is an Actuary by profession. He is a keen numismatist and is a specialist on the coinages of Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim and North East India. He has written widely on the subject."
