Zusammenfassung: | The very great diversity of the regional situations in Europe requires, if you wish to get a clear view of the present state and of the development of the regional disparities during the last years, the use of simple and synthetic indicators as the per capita GDP for the economic disparities and the employment and unemployment rates for the social disparities. Looking at these indicators of the 15 present nations of the European Union the situation will be marked by important territorial inequalities, on the economic level as well as in the social area. While the regional disparities decreased during the 1960s and 1970s, they have been tending to stabilize for a decade now and even to grow noticeably within the majority of the Member States. The entry of ten new Member States into the European Union will considerably aggravate the situation in terms of territorial disparities, as the vast majority of the new Member States and candidate nations have very low levels of diversity and unfavourable situations in terms of employment and unemployment.; |
