The radical nature of the Laotian leadership's new thinking, especially in economics, has been clearly manifested over the past few years in the full switch of the economy to market principles in price-formation, the recognition of the active and passive role of the private sector, the pursuit of an open-door policy in external economic relations etc. The authors scrutinize basic principles and ideas of this new thinking and its practical aspects.
