Zusammenfassung:This article analyses the causes of Guyana's economic crisis in 1976. It shows also how the production crisis made it impossible for the country to fulfill her CARICOM commitments. Attention is paid to the fact that starting in 1978 Guyana had to seek recourse in the IMF and how this IMF intervention aggravated the afore mentioned crisis to the extent that the country was forced to withdraw from its programmes owing to her inability to fulfill her side of the agreement
