Zusammenfassung:"The Philosophy of Umberto Eco" was published in the first edition in the Library of Living Philosophers, founded in 1938, a series in which, over time, published volumes dedicated to, among others, Bertrand Russell, Albert Einstein, Jean-Paul Sartre and Hilary Putnam. The formula of the series provides for an intellectual autobiography and the critical contribution of about twenty scholars, at an international level, with the author's response to each. Eco, the only Italian in the series, is presented to the English-speaking reader as "the most interdisciplinary scholar to date and the most widely translated". The founder of modern semiotics, he is known worldwide for his work on the philosophy of language and aesthetics. With his fiction, he has become a leading figure in contemporary literature. His writings embrace such fundamental and disparate areas as advertising, television, visual arts, and comics, as well as philosophical questions concerning truth, reality, cognition, languages, and literature. The critical essays in this volume cover the entire span of this production, ranging through the most varied territories of investigation. The result is a great kaleidoscope, with all of Eco's faces and all of his "worlds", where each reader will be able to find the path that best suits him or her. Starting from a unicum, his Autobiography, where he tells how it happened that a child curious about books, who drew stories inspired by the pirates of the Caribbean, became Umberto Eco.--Book jacket
