Zusammenfassung: | Despite an increase in entrepreneurial activity among older people, the gap between male and female rates of venture creation remains. This study has adopted a qualitative methodology to examine the role of entrepreneurial capitals on the formation of entrepreneurial actions between both older men and women. A key aim of this research has been to understand why older women fail to keep pace with older men in venture creation. While recognising the multiplicity of characteristics that intersect with age, such as ethnicity, this study has focused only on the role of age and gender on individuals contemplating entrepreneurship in later life. By proposing a more nuanced gendered view of later-life entrepreneurship, this research provides an important stimulus to current research, which has largely focused on later-life entrepreneurship as a unitary phenomenon and feeds into debates on ageing and ageism. |
