Hallux, Hallux valgus
From January 2006 to December 2009, a total number of 489 surgical corrections of hallux valgus deformities were conducted at the Klinik für Orthopädie und Unfallchirurgie im Klinikum in den Pfeifferschen Stiftungen in Magdeburg. Of those, 212 cases in 181 patients were followed up clinically and radiologically and could therefore be evaluated. The average time period for the follow-up was 12.6 years. The average age of the 193 female and 19 male patients was 55.8 years at the time of surgery. In the evaluated time period, 72 Chevron osteotomies, 23 base osteotomies, 51 TMT-I arthrodeses and 66 complex surgeries were performed. On average, the HVA was improved from 34,5° to 12,3° and the IMA was decreased from 16,2° to 7,0°. The TMT-I-Arthrodesis bore the greatest potential of correction with an average correction of 26,4° of the HVA and 12,4° of the IMA. The NRS was reduced from 6.3 points to 0.4 points. The AOFA score had an average 89.1 points on the day of the follow up. 171 patients (80.7 %) were “very satisfied” with the result of the surgery. The complication rate of 21.7% is relatively high by international comparison. In 13.7 % of the cases (n=29), patients encountered a hallux valgus relapse, in 5.7 % of the cases (n=12), patients had hallux varus deformities and in 2.4 % of the cases (n=5), patients encountered healing disorders. However, revision surgery was only necessary in five cases, this means the revision rate is less than 2.5 %. Pseudarthroses, avascular ...
