Zusammenfassung: | Dissertation, Universitätsmedizin der Universität Greifswald, 2020 Straßenverkehrsunfall, Rechtsmedizin Comparing the death tolls due to traffic accidents in Germany in 1970 (21,332 deaths) and 2015 (3,459 deaths) reveals a casualty reduction of nearly 84 %, despite there being considerably more motor vehicles. Although numbers are decreasing, forensic analysis of injury patterns and establishing causality between accident and death are essential. For this study, the autopsy results of fatal traffic accident victims, conducted in the forensic medicine department of Greifswald, Germany, between 2006 and 2015, were retrospectively evaluated. This included automobile, truck, pedestrian, motorcycle and bicycle accidents, as well as one involving a horse-drawn carriage. Besides establishing correlations between the accident and death, this study especially focused on reconstructing the accident details, based on the autopsy findings. Of 1,887 autopsies conducted during the observation period, 163 were linked to victims of traffic accidents. In 157 of these cases, causality between the accident and subsequent death of the traffic participant could be established. Statistically, there were 58 (≈ 36.94 %) female and 99 (≈ 63.06 %) male victims in the total sample, with women being underrepresented in almost all accident subgroups. Most people died in the age group of 20 to 24 years (n = 21).
