Tag hinzufügen | Zusammenfassung: | The Chinese “Belt and Road Initiative” has become an unprecedented challenge in different aspects: political, economic, humanitarian. The idea of the “belt of development” seems very attractive and gives hope for inclusive development in Eurasia. However, it has not yet provided answers on how it can be implemented within countries in different stages of development with opposing interests. For instance, some of the post-Soviet states are land-locked and are interested in the new ways of improving global connectivity, sometimes for political reasons. They use a ‘multi-vector’ approach, which seems to be pragmatic when great powers and regional leaders are seeking diversification of transportation routes, sometimes competing with each other. This creates a “network-based” approach for infrastructure development in Eurasia, which gives opportunities for countries and regions to launch projects within “belts of development”. This chapter examines the challenges and opportunities for national and regional authorities within this framework. |
