It is therefore one of very few countries that have had nearly two decades of reform experience. Having briefly outlined the conditions in Sri Lanka at the start of liberalization process in 1977, the paper gives an overview of the country's economic policy up to 1993, discusses the problems encountered by efforts to stabilize the economy and looks at problems of adjustment.
