Zusammenfassung:The authors examine the elements and main components of the inflation (to be more precise those of the consumer price index) on the basis of the data of the period between January, 1989 and June, 1998. The authors search for an answer to the question how and why the main components of the aggregate consumer price index and the price indices of the individual main expenditure groups are developing as compared to the whole. The study examines the synchronism (co-movement) of the consumer price indices of the two main expenditure groups and analyses if consumer prices have developed parallelly within the individual main groups. The exploration of the synchronism of the time series is carried Out by the pre-exploration of the Data Generating Process. As a part of this the authors determine the integrity and the type of the components of the time series and the interrelations between them. To demonstrate the causal relations between time series, the authors introduce the term of co-integration and they carry out the testing of the co-integration of time series applying the DF test and the ADF test. Finally, the inflation data are analysed in monthly breakdown. As a general conclusion it can be ascertained that the inflation generating effect of the wages is not justified, there is no close positive connection between the development of the nominal wages and the consumer prices.
