Zusammenfassung: | A small number of Bach's fugues reveal a formal structure which is similar to the da capo aria. Because some belong to his most ambitious fugues, the question arises as to the significance of such peripheral compositions, in context of Bach's abilities and the notion of connecting different musical genres (concerto, sonata, motet, aria, cantata). Once more, the relationship of fugue theory to the issue of formalizing fugues should be considered, especially the general exclusion of aesthetic terms from the theory of fugues and the reduction to the technical aspects of composition. Bach's da capo fugues are a perfect model for understanding the process of overlapping musical genres in the 18th century and as a means of illuminating the process of musical reflexion with regard to personal preferences, transformation and the condensation of structure.
