Zusammenfassung: | Migrant remittances have grown in importance for the island states in the South Pacific despite evidence that they may also have negative social and economic consequences for economic development. The author inquires whether remittance flows can be sustained, if there are enough island-born or island-linked people into the labour forces of industrialized countries to generate a given level of remittances to the island states. He examines the case of remittance flows between New Zealand and Western Samoa and discusses New Zealand's economic problems. (DÜI-Sen) |
