Zusammenfassung:One of the reasons victims of Nazi persecution did not cooperate after 1945 was the lack of general group identification. The majority of the former resistance fighters, and especially the communists, cultivated an elite self-perception which resulted largely from their experiences during the "Third Reich". This self-perception was characterized by an exclusive claim to the hegemony of political and social processes after the war, reservations toward other groups of Nazi victims and by an unwillingness to cooperate with most of the German people. This was not conducive to permanent cooperation with their former fellow sufferers and was contrary to the essential policies of the SED. (Vierteljahrshefte für Zeitgeschichte / FUB)
