Zusammenfassung:Literaturverz. S. 543 - 545
The article analyses the inequalities existing in Sierra Leone - among people and areas - and their causes. This paper employs an empirical analysis to illustrate that the state is an agent affecting differentiation by acting as a redistribution mechanism. The analysis is informed by the distinction between two types of disparities. On the one hand, there are differences which reflect "natural" circumstances; these indicate factors such as ecology, history, social variation, and economic forces. In contrast, there are "artificially" caused disparities; they denote diversity which is manipulable within the political economy of the country. (DÜI-Ott)
