Zusammenfassung:The MIRAB concept refers to economies and societies dominated by labour migration, remittances, overseas aid and the bureaucratic sector, features which are often present in very small economies or microstates. The emergence of MIRAB system is documented for 5 small South Pacific countries: Cook Islands, Niue, Kiribati, Tokelau and Tuvalu. It is argued that economic development in the South Pacific is a regional phenomenon, not a locally bounded one and that this fact is of considerable significance for their future political and constitutional development.
