Zusammenfassung:The development experience of Asia in the last three decades is characterized by countries pursuing widely divergent strategies and policies resulting in disparate growth performances. The resource-poor Asian newly industrializing economies (NIEs), namely, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan with their outword-looking export-oriented strategies, have recorded high growth rates. The experiences of the NIEs are likely to become increasingly relevant to developing countries in the Asian region. The article analyses the role NIEs could play in the future development of Asia and explores areas and modalities of co-operation between the NIEs and other Asian developing economies. (DÜI-Sen)
