The lack of geopolitical considerations within this body of theory, however, poses serious questions for the analysis of the international politics of the Caribbean region. The author examines the general implications for the practical conduct of foreign policy co-ordination in CARICOM with reference to regional examples, the US Caribbean Basin Intitiative of 1982 and the Grenada crisis of 1983
