Zusammenfassung:The objective of this article is to examine the Brazilian attempts at stabilization and to identify the political impasses behind the policy options. For this purpose, a broad review of stabilization policies adopted from March 1985 to October 1989 is given, and the orthodox approach is summarized. Next the meaning of heterodoxy is discussed, and corresponding approaches are reviewed. The final section concludes with a general interpretation of the period and an abstract of the argument
