Zusammenfassung:Kinship is often assumed in discussions of Pacific migration and remittance to be a constant, pervasive factor responsible for both sending workers to metropolitan centres and also for distributing their remittances among the wider community at home. The author explores migration and remittances from a Tongan village perspective. From recent observations in Tonga, on the main island of Tongatapu and on a tiny island off the coast of the main island of Vava'u in the northernmost island group of the Tongan archipelago, the author points out that remittance of money and goods could cease without necessarily undermining the existence of kinship networks at home and overseas.
