Zusammenfassung: | The system of Felda land schemes in Malaysia is often celebrated as a major success in peasant development. However, according to the author, the relationship between Felda as an agent of the state and settlers who were mainly recruited from the poor class of the peasantry has never been questioned. He suggests that the state relates to the peasantry in a contradictory manner, while it resettles and develop the poor peasants in land schemes, it also extracts the surplus from them to accumulate and expand leaving the settlers in serious economic difficulties. He (the author) explores who benefits from Felda production. (DÜI-Sen) |
