Zusammenfassung:The author believes that a satisfactory account for the growth of South-South relations can be provided only by a theoretical perspective that considers "the political environment, in particular the state and its activities, as being essential for the understanding of the nature and direction of international economic expansion". Within a general Marxist framework he examines the determinants of India's economic ties with other developing countries and compares these ties with Brazil's growing South-oriented economic relations.
