Zusammenfassung:According to the author the alleged linkage between confucianism and the apparent economic successes in a number of East Asian economies (Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore and China) enjoys near axiomatic status. He questions the proposition of a linkage between the social and economic development in these East Asian societies and confucianism. The author attempts to show in this article that confucianism plays a political role - a legitimating agent - in these societies. (DÜI-Sen)
