Zusammenfassung: | In order to assess the role played by policies in informal sector development the International Labour Organization initiated a series of studies on policies and their impact on the urban informal sector in selected countries in sub-Saharan Africa. This paper reviews the evidence from Zimbabwe with a view to determining whether the recent changes in the policies and regulations resulting from the economic structural adjustment programme had any impact on the urban informal sector. The author notes the increasing importance of the sector in providing employment and the absence of a macro-economic framework conducive to its growth. (DÜI-Hff) |
