Zusammenfassung:Erlangen, Nürnberg, Univ., Diss., 1974
An investigation of Kirnberger's writings and his technique of fugal composition from the standpoint of Bach's influence on Kirnberger's work as theorist, teacher, and composer. Focuses on the thesis that Kirnberger's Die Kunst des reinen Satzes in der Musik is a presentation of Bach's method of teaching composition; also deals with Kirnberger's use of and commentary on Bach's works. Kirnberger's activity as a collector is illustrated by the Bach collection that he assembled for the Amalienbibliothek. Analysis of Kirnberger's fugues for clavier reveals a composer dominated by the ideas of his time: comparison of Kirnberger's fugal technique with Bach's shows no real stylistic influence of Bach upon Kirnberger. A thematic catalogue lists Kirnberger's clavier and organ works with data on the sources (prints, MS copies, later editions), and attributions for some works previously held to be anonymous.
