Zusammenfassung:One of the most interesting, important, and well-documented instances of the collaborative nature of printmaking is found in the development of lithography and in the work of the early lithographic firms. To a great extent it is a business story. Lithography, a term derived from the Greek meaning stone writing, was the first totally new print process to be developed since the fifteenth century. As with all inventions, the idea had to be sold. It also had to be promoted and improved, and it was not so much the people who first established lithography businesses who succeeded but rather their followers.
