Zusammenfassung:Klappentext: Based on the University records and other sources, this is the first full-length account of the way in which the teaching of economics, politics and social studies developed in Oxford. It shows how Cambridge went ahead of Oxford in 1903 when it established an Honours Degree in Economics whereas Oxford was content with a Diploma. The establishment of the Honour School of Philosophy, Politics and Economics PPE in 1920 put Oxford in the forefront. This book also gives a full account of the controversy which attended the founding and the early years of the College made possible by Lord Nuffield's benefaction of 1937. It sheds light on how major decisions are reached in the University and the role of the Colleges.
