Zusammenfassung:How dwelling might look in the future was a question repeatedly revisited by West Germany’s most successful shelter magazine, Schöner Wohnen . At the beginning of the 1960s, the domestic everyday future was planned and subtly linked with socio-political goals. In the mid-sixties, major designs presented architectural ‘solutions’ for the equally major chal- lenges of the future. And in the early 1970s, the magazine increasingly questioned the autonomy of architecture and placed more responsibility for planning the dwelling space in the hands of readers. "We have planned for the future" explores lines of connection between architectural perspectives on the future in Schöner Wohnen and the respec- tive contexts in which they appeared, and analyzes how not only the vision of the future but also the role ascribed to the architectural discipline in shaping it changed.
