Zusammenfassung:La Figuration Libre -- Le Graffiti -- Neue Wilden -- Les Nouveaux Artistes -- Media Peintres -- Novos Selvages
The Hélène & Édouard Leclerc Fund inaugurates today a program open to major movements and artists of the late twentieth century and the contemporary scene. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, an art movement spreads around the world under different names: Figuration Libre in France (Rémi Blanchard, François Boisrond, Robert Combas, Herve Di Rosa, Catherine Viollet ...); Graffiti in the United States (Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf, Crash ...); Neue Wilde in Germany (Elvira Bach, Luciano Castelli, Rainer Fetting, Normal Group, Salome ...); New Artists in the USSR (Afrika, Timur Novikov, Oleg Kotelnikov) ... The exhibition, 'Libres Figurations - 80s', curated by Pascale Le Thorel, brings together for the first time more than 50 major international artists and emblematic of this scene. It brings together more than 200 works and evokes this universe through paintings, sculptures, films, videos, photos and archival document ... 'Libres Figuration - 80s' tells the different episodes of this story and is a testimony on this non-academic art, often provocative, inspired by popular culture, born in the street, in clubs, in magazines as well as in workshops and has a strong link with the rock, punk and comic scene. At the heart of its conception is the dialogue maintained by the curator with the artists or the actors of the free figurations for the choice of the works which come from international museums, big private collections or are lent by the artists themselves in order to create an event alive reflecting the reality of this international movement.--from press release
