Pedro Lemebel (Santiago, Chile, 1952-2015) founded in 1987 the art collective Yeguas del Apocalipsis with Francisco Casas along with some feminist writers of the 1980's, such as Carmen Berenguer, Diamela Eltit and Raquel Olea, generating performative, poetic and contestatory actions against the marginality imposed by the dictatorship. His work addressed the performance, transvestism, photography, video and installation and together represented a permanent denounce for the violation of human rights. The exhibition Arder (Burn) comprised a large body of his work that included performance art, photography, videos and installations created since the end of the 1980's until his death. The catalog includes two unpublished photos of Lemebel in the demonstrations against the dictatorship in 1987. Photographer Luis Navarro photographed the writer/artist in a black dress, shoes with studs, his eyes and face painted and with a headdress of bird wings. "He exhibited his visual work (photographs, performances, and video) at the gallery D21 in November 2014, and at Metales Pesados Visual in March 2015."--Page 89
