Known as a pioneer of abstraction, Kupka's art has been described as modern poetry through colours. Throughout his long career in Paris, Kupka was endlessly fascinated by spiritualism, science and holistic human development. In his powerful works, he applied Newton's theory of colours as well as music theory: the exuberantly coloured paintings contain a palpable sense of rhythm and movement.
