One of the most exciting new projects in our city must be Pontsteiger. An eye-catching new apartment building along the banks of the IJ-river. Pontsteiger is a groundbreaking piece of architecture in the old Houthaven. An industrial area that slowly but surely is being turned into one of the new hotspots of Amsterdam with great restaurants, a beautiful park and of course, Pontsteiger. It's located right next to the spot where the ferry used to be moored, and that ferry will return when the project is finished. Hence, the name Pontsteiger (jetty for the ferry). While the construction was still in full swing, photographer Milan Hofmans worked on creating a book that documents the process of this landmark in Dutch architecture. Hofmans was there three years ago when the last ferries departed, and he was there later when the first resident enjoyed the new view. His images show the construction, the labour, the neighbourhood, the elegance and the building as a whole |
