Artipelag presents a comprehensive photo exhibition containing works from the last five years by twenty-one photographers. The point of departure for the exhibition is the changes taking place in photography during the 1990s. As part of these changes is an increasing awareness of the theoretical foundations and an interest for the staged image rather than the documentary one. Many of the photographers in the exhibition combine the documentary image with fiction to create a narrative. In the exhibition, emphasize lies on a tendency which has been clear during the last twenty years in Swedish photography: it is women who have become the influential and the most successful photographers in Sweden from the 1990s until today. In the exhibition at Artipelag, this claim will be both tested and pursued.
