Zusammenfassung:This book brings together two themes that preoccupied Keith Vaughan - the human figure and pictorial space. This survey embraces works from his early experiments with photography and his Neo-Romantic designs and drawings, and includes his lithographic prints of the 1950s and 1960s, ending at the time when Vaughan's work was the subject of a major retrospective at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1962. The term 'Ground' suggests some of the formal concerns that began to preoccupy Vaughan in the mid-1950s and early 1960s - the abstracted human figure, musical composition and pictorial space rather than a representation of the land, however poetic, that had pre-occupied him in the 1940s and early 1950s
