˜Theœ life and death of King John

Here Shakespeare rewrites an anonymous dramatic treatment of the subject, the only time he uses such a source instead of the chronicles themselves. He changes the characters to show the king's wickedness and weakness, and raises Faulconbridge, the bastard, from swaggerer to champion of England.
