Zusammenfassung: | The Critically acclaimed documentary now remastered and available on DVD.The documentary is first and foremost a celebration of Charles Blackman's life and art . The film is introduced by Barry Humphries with excerpts from one of his early poems " The Ballad of Charles Blackman". Apart from a few lateral asides the film takes a chronological voyage, from Charles's memories of childhood up until the present time, through the " tunnel of adolescence," and the darker aspects of Charles's soul, across the seas to London and back again. Along the way the film examines Charles's contribution to the development of a unique sense of Australian identity. More than any other male Australian painter, Charles has painted from a feminine perspective - " I'm like a cork on an ocean of femininity".Charles explores areas of feeling that have traditionally been suppressed - feelings of love, guilt, tenderness, sadness and isolation. This humanist approach changed perceptions of how we as Australians and the international community, saw this country.
