Zusammenfassung:The aim of the handbook is to present the most theoretically grounded and empirically rigorous sociological analysis of schools to date. The research presented in it is built on three fundamental tenets of sociology. First, the authors adopt the perspective that schools are a central institution in society. The second sociological insight is that the school is a social system. A third sociological insight is that social events depend on the interaction of macrolevel and microlevel processes.
