Zusammenfassung:The privatization process experimented by Chilean higher education during the early 80s has been continued with no substantial modifications during the democratic governments. The state has lost the control of higher education and has been replaced by free market. However, this strategy was so well designed that even though the educational system is regulated by free market, the state performs a legitimizing function. This situation is harmful for the poorest sectors of the country and demands fundamental changes if more equity is desired in the future. (CPU Estud Soc/DÜI)
