S. 42 - 44 Taiwan's agricultural system is examined from the perspective of three assumed basic objectives of agricultural policy: ensuring a decent living for farmers, meeting domestic need for food and raw materials, and protecting agricultural resources. However, the agricultural resource base is threatened by environmental pollution, soil erosion, and urban/industrial expansion.
