Zusammenfassung: | From the foreword: This publication makes available the papers and proceedings of the seminar held in The Hague from 3 October to 5 October 1983, with the generous support of The Netherlands Government, to mark the Twentieth Anniversary of the World Food Programme. The aim of the seminar was to bring together a wide cross section of international thinking on food aid and development so as to deepen understanding of the role of food aid generally, and of WFP in particular, in responding to the challenges of the eighties. The seminar sought to stimulate thinking, generate new ideas and, in particular, focus on some of the many issues thad need to be dealt with in developing appropriate food aid policies and programmes in the years ahead. The participants brought together for the seminar included principal officers of some main food aid agencies, both governmental and non-governmental, development experts and practitioners from recipient countries and leading academic researchers. In preparation for the seminar, twelve of the participants were requested to prepare papers on a wide range of relevant topics. The wide-spread interest generated by the seminar has led The Netherlands Government and the World Food Programme to publish these papers together with the conclusions and proceedings of the seminar. |
