Processes of appropriation and repetition characterise the oeuvre of Marijn van Kreij. He often combines manually copied artworks and illustrations from children?s books with cut-out snippets of text, or applies loosely painted brushstrokes to pages from art catalogues and magazines. Through this approach, the artist seeks to give iconic and lesser-known works of art from the 20th century a new place and form in the here and now.
