Zusammenfassung: | In the fourth part of the successful series of Zeeland Masters of the Golden Age, art historians Frank van der Ploeg and Inge Schipper shed light on the life and work of Arnoldus van Anthonissen (1631-1703). This artistic all-rounder is best known as a third generation marine painter. He worked both as a fine painter and with a large brush. For that reason he turned out to be the dean of the so-called 'coarse painters' at the St. Luke Guild in Leiden. In Zierikzee he is also active in a guild and he also paints maps, coats of arms and the interior of the ship Tholen. It is suspected that he ran an art dealer there and his wife ran a hat shop. As a true seventeenth-century cultural entrepreneur, Arnoldus van Anthonissen later also worked as a fine painter and marble imitation painter in Middelburg. The book 'Arnoldus van Anthonissen - A Zeeland Master from the Golden Age' offers a unique glimpse into the extraordinary life of an exceptional master painter. |
