The author has made an original and substantive contribution to regional history and architectural analysis, thanks to the figure of an official and architect located at the juncture of the Bourbon reforms and reforms or at the start of the second half of the eighteenth century. Until now Cleere was a subject that had remained blurred and had even been denoted by the historiography of art. This book is the result of a disciplined commitment to the social history of art and shows the possibility of writing an account of architecture in a comprehensive manner in a political, cultural and symbolic way. This book exceeds the expectation of a conventional monograph: in each monument a vivid picture of social and regional history is drawn using "the eye of the time". Here authorship, training, urban conditions, intentionality, technology, typology, function, ornamental language, figurative meanings, adventure and, as far as possible, the reception of the spaces of each building are discussed. It provides a wide-ranging story, exploring the dialectical relationship between document-monument and manages to determine the scope of a local stylistic language. This relationship allows us to deal with more complex problems of the social and political fabric from this moment and to understand the juxtaposition of the aesthetic proposals that converged in each type of building. We will see how Cleere is a national and visionary creator who anticipates and shapes the times to come; an administrator and builder that configures "the urban face of the Bourbon state", but that also satisfies the expectations of the local taste and its demands of Creole identity. The reader will find, in short, a renovating proposal to study the uses of architectural typologies explaining one of the most difficult problems: the expression of a language from its own context
